Feeling slightly “burned out,” Mary Rooney decided it was time for a career change, not happy with the direction her life had taken – she decided to take a chance and turn her passion into a business. Mary had always been interested in photography, as it had been a passion from an early age but she had never thought of it as a business.
Mary immediately enrolled on a Monaghan Partnership Start Your Own Business course, and the rest as they say is history. “As there was only one photographer in Castleblayney at that time, and no photographic studio, I decided to open my studio in the town.”
Mary first heard of First Step through the Monaghan Enterprise Board. With her business burgeoning and new equipment required she contacted First Step.
The business is gathering momentum all the time – especially in the months of May and June with weddings, Communions and other community events. “In my first year in business I had one wedding, in the second year I had three small unconventional weddings and this year I have two big weddings and so far two bookings for next year. I have covered community, school and personal events as well as having work commissioned for brochures. I also have a promotional shoot coming up for a boutique owner for her brochure – so business is good.”
“My only regret is that I didn’t do this when I was ten years younger, but you are never too old to learn.”
